The full title of this piece is
If I could but lift this jewelled veil and set thee free again
The heron was killed the night that superstorm Sandy swept through Newmarket at the end of October, 2012.
When I was prepping the image, I noticed the red leaf pointed at its heart like an arrowhead, and made it redder. Aside from that it’s not manipulated.
This poem was sent by a student at Huron Heights SS:
If I could but lift
the opulence of torment.
My heart becomes dust.
And another left by an anonymous poet:
If I could but lift this jewelled veil
and set thee free again,
forever trapped in this icy cold shell of beauty,
But your soul soars on in some other plane, warm,
graceful and free-
Untouchable

If I could but lift,
The opulence of torment,
My heart become dust.
Thank you Evan – I like your response to If I could but lift this jewelled veil…
