{"id":231,"date":"2017-09-03T17:12:18","date_gmt":"2017-09-03T22:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pixsilver.com\/wpress\/?p=231"},"modified":"2017-09-12T13:16:39","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T18:16:39","slug":"scanograms-new-medium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pixsilver.com\/wpress\/2017\/09\/03\/scanograms-new-medium\/","title":{"rendered":"Scanograms &#8211; a new medium?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; line-height: 20px;\">There are things I miss about traditional \u201cwet darkroom\u201d photography \u2013 the magic of watching an image appear in the developer; the photogram, where objects are scattered on photographic paper, which is then exposed and developed; even the anticipation during the time, often days or weeks, between the exposure and the print. <a href=\"https:\/\/pixsilver.com\/wpress\/scanograms\/\">Scanograms<\/a> use a technique I have invented to create the digital equivalent of the photogram. I open the flat-bed scanner and start a scan. I then \u201cpaint\u201d with some object \u2013 in this case a tulip \u2013 over the moving scanning bar. I don\u2019t get to see the result until the scan finishes, so I also get back some of the anticipatory delay that I have missed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; line-height: 20px;\">If you look closely, you will see bands of red, green and blue around some of the scanogram\u2019s features. These are a result of the way the scanner works \u2013 sequentially scanning in the digital primaries \u2013 combined with the flower\u2019s motion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; line-height: 20px;\">The only processing I do on the result is to (laboriously) take out the inevitable dust spots.
